“I was speaking to my dad one day and he said to me, ‘There are two most important days in a man’s life.’
So I asked, ‘What are they?”
(Note this was one of my teachings during my school’s devotion)
If I asked you the same question now, I’d probably get different answers. I said the day you’re born and the day you give your life to Christ.
Some would say graduation day.
Some would say wedding day.
Some would even say the day you make money.
But the answer is simple:
The two most important days in a man’s life are the day you are born… and the day you discover why.
And that question — why — is one of the most powerful questions you will ever ask.
The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3 that there is a time for everything.
A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to uproot.
A time to weep and a time to laugh.
In other words, life is full of seasons.
But here is what many people miss:
You can be present in a season and still not understand your purpose in it.
You can be alive… but not living intentionally.
You can be busy… but not meaningful.
You can exist… without ever discovering your why.
That is the tragedy of many lives—not death, but directionlessness.
Some people go to school, graduate, get jobs, make money…
But deep down, they are still asking, “Why am I here?”
Because purpose is not automatically revealed with age.
It is discovered with intention.
That is why Ecclesiastes also says God has “set eternity in the human heart.”
Meaning, there is something inside you that keeps asking for more…
Something that refuses to be satisfied with just existing.
That thing is your search for purpose.
And here is the truth:
Your “why” is not found in trends, pressure, or comparison.
It is found in alignment with God.
Because if there is a Creator, then there must be a reason for creation.
You are not an accident.
You are not random.
You are not here to just pass time.
There is a reason you were born into this family, in this country, at this time. I can even be so detailed and look for a reason why I’m this skin complexion and not that skin complexion, or something as simple as why I have so so so number of siblings… etc
So the real question is not just “When were you born?”
It is “Why were you born?”
And until that question is answered, something will always feel missing.
So today, don’t just celebrate the fact that you are alive.
Be curious enough, bold enough, and intentional enough to ask:
Why am I here?
Because the day you discover that…
is the day your life truly begins.
