ABUJA, Nigeria — The House of Representatives on Tuesday resumed plenary after a 68-day annual recess but immediately adjourned further legislative sitting until October 13, 2026.
The lawmakers had last sat on July 23 before proceeding on the annual recess. They were originally scheduled to resume on September 15, but the National Assembly extended the break by two weeks to September 29 to allow ongoing rehabilitation work in the Senate and House chambers to be completed, reports Daily Trust.
The House consequently reconvened on Tuesday, September 29, but adjourned plenary for another two weeks, with lawmakers expected to return on October 13.
The development means members of the House will spend another 14 days away from plenary after their lengthy annual recess.
The National Assembly had earlier announced the extension of the recess in a notice signed by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana.
According to the notice, the adjustment was necessary because of ongoing rehabilitation work in the chambers of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
