Ondo 2024: Aiyedatiwa Officially Declares For Governorship Race

OYO, Nigeria – Ondo State Governor, Honourable Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, has formally declared his intention to contest in the November 2024 Ondo State governorship election.

The event held at the Arcade Ground in Akure, the state capital, on Tuesday.

Large crowd of supporters and political well wishers in colourful outfits and banners graced the occasion to express support for Governor Aiyedatiwa’s ambition.

Apart from other leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state as well as political leaders across the three senatorial districts, the event also had many members of the state House of Assembly in attendance. They were led by

The Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Olamide Oladiji. There were also te chairman of the House Committee on Information, Honourable (Chief) Olatunji Oshati.

Others present were the state deputy governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami; former Deputy Senate Leader, Professor Ajayi Borofice; former House of Representatives member, Mr. Ade Adeogun; current political appointees, party chairmen across the council areas, artisans and student groups, among others.

Addressing the crowd of support groups, Governor Ayedatiwa said his target was purposeful leadership to develop Ondo State further.

According to him, some of his achievements in the last few months that he assumed office were various “life-changing projects” in education, road construction, payment of workers’ salaries as well as pensions and gratuities.

He added that he had paid approved the N35,000 wage award to workers, free transportation for workers and others.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, while soliciting the support of the people of the state for the reality of his ambition, disclosed that he recently ordered the release of N1.2 billion for the development of the state-owned Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa and another N1 billion for the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, while he also approved the purchase of 100 new patrol vehicles for Amotekun Corps in the state, aside recruitment of hundreds of primary school teachers, a development he said was underway.

Delivery one of the goodwill messages, the member representing Ondo East/West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Abiola Makinde, described Governor Aiyedatiwa as a leader with a clear vision to transform the state.

Other speakers at the event spoke in glowing tributes about the governor, assuring that the people of the state would not regret returning Aiyedatiwa into office.
