BENJAMIN OMOIKE
OGUN, Nigeria – Mr Ubong Etuk has emerged as the new Chairman of Harmony Esteem Community Development Association (CDA).
The election, which held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, within the estate corridors, was well attended by residents, who were eager to witness a keenly contested, yet, smooth electoral process.
Pastor (Dr.) Funso Ajayi of Mercy Rock Medicals, led the electoral team to conduct, what has been widely described as a seamless election; with many residents attesting to the transparency of the entire process.
In his inaugural speech, Mr Etuk said he was ready to roll up his sleeves and knuckle down to work in ensuring a positive change in the estate. “I believe we can, and will make a difference. With this team that I have, I can assure you that we shall succeed. It is a positive change, and one in the right direction. We have no choice but to make things work. There must be a change and all those things that have been begging for solutions; questions that have been begging for answers, we will ensure that we answer them. I believe in this team, I also believe in this estate and a better life for the residents of this estate. Is it light, is it roads, or any other important matter, we will not shy away from trying our best to resolve everything that needs attention. I thank you all for the opportunity given me to serve this wonderful estate. I will not let you down,” he concluded.
According to one Mr. Olayinka, “the entire process of this election was, for me, very organised and transparent. I think it represents a true reflection of the wishes of the people of this esteemed estate. I only pray that this Exco would perform better than the previous one.”
Another resident, who spoke under anonymity, declared that a number of residents had lost faith in previous Excos, and the entire CDA of the estate. According to her, “they have not delivered on the mandate of their office. We have lost faith in previous Excos and the whole CDA of this estate. We hardly have light. There are many things that are not working. For me, that is the number one problem we’re facing here. Then, the issue of carrying the people along is another issue. If you notice, many people are not interested in what is going on in this estate any longer. It is a case of ‘all man for himself’, she lamented.

John Akinbiyi, another resident, was of the opinion that the new Exco looked promising but that they had their work cut out for them. He stressed that: “This new Exco look vibrant and ready to work. I can see that they have injected a lot of fresh faces and new blood into the set up. I pray they succeed. They need to first win back the confidence and trust of the residents, as many have lost faith in them, due to the lax nature of their predecessors. They need to embark on clear cut programmes and speak to the people in clear terms, in trying to execute their agenda.”
Pastor Ajayi prayed for the new Chairman and the entire Exco to succeed in their new assignment. He thanked God who Had enabled him to lead a successful and unblemished electoral process for a third straight year in the estate, and admonished the newly-elected officers to be focused, dedicated, fair, transparent and God-fearing in the discharge of their duties, stressing that God would always reward a faithful steward in His vineyard. He said working in the community and serving the people, was akin to working in God’s sanctuary, and that this duty ought to be carried out with love and the fear of God.
