NIGERIA: The African Action Congress (AAC) has asked President Bola Tinubu to approve the use of the Presidential Villa in Abuja for its campaign council inauguration on November 11, 2026, and provide food, drinks and other logistics for 5,000 attendees.
The party is also seeking food, drinks and other logistical support for 5,000 participants expected to attend the ceremony, scheduled for November 11, 2026.
In a letter dated October 21, 2026, and signed by its National Secretary, Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena, the AAC said the proposed inauguration was part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The party said its request was based on what it described as arrangements reportedly extended to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement, reports Vanguard.
Invoking the principles of multiparty democracy and political inclusiveness, the AAC urged Tinubu to ensure equal treatment of political parties in the use of public facilities.
“In the spirit of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness, and equal treatment of political parties,” the letter stated, adding that approving the request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to fairness and equal access.
The party argued that public institutions should serve all Nigerians without partisan discrimination, regardless of political affiliation.
It also requested clarification on the procedures and conditions governing approval for the proposed event.
The letter was addressed to Tinubu in his capacity as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja.
Sowore, a journalist and human rights activist, is the AAC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election. The party’s request comes as political parties prepare for the next general elections.
