NIGERIA: Isaac Fayose, a political commentator, has criticised supporters of President Bola Tinubu over the rising price of petrol, questioning why Nigerians who protested fuel price increases under former President Goodluck Jonathan are now defending the higher prices under the current administration.
Fayose made the remarks in a viral video while comparing the reaction to petrol prices under Jonathan with the current situation, where the price of petrol has risen to about ₦1,500 per litre in some locations.
According to him, petrol sold for ₦98 per litre under Jonathan, yet some Nigerians protested and accused the former president of poor economic management.
“You bought fuel at 98 Naira, you came out to protest, you said Jonathan doesn’t have brain, that Jonathan does not know how to manage economy. Now you are buying the same fuel at ₦1,500 and you are calling the man, the current president, Tinubu, a builder. That means you are a fool,” he said.
Fayose also raised concerns over developments involving public gardens in Abuja, alleging that some of the gardens had been taken over, converted and sold to individuals he described as cronies of those in power.
“They seized so many gardens in Abuja, they were converting it to their names. They were selling it to their cronies. Everybody will come out, they don collect this garden, they don collect this one,” he alleged.
He questioned why Nigerians were not speaking out against actions they considered wrong, arguing that citizens should hold governments accountable.
“But everybody will keep quiet the next day. Nobody is coming out to say, stop right there, you can’t do this to us. That mean say you be mumu,” Fayose said.
He ended the video by questioning whether Nigerians would continue to remain silent despite the economic difficulties and other concerns he raised.
“And you know how mumu dey kpai, they kpai with their stupidity. Is this how you go kpai with mumu?” he asked.
