We’re Not The Most Corrupt Police Force In The World – Nigeria Police

The Nigeria Police has reacted to a report released by an X account user who uploaded a video ranking the NPF as the most corrupt Police Force in the world.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Monday, February 19, rejected the ranking saying the basis for this ranking appears to be rooted in outdated parameters, notably focusing on the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

“I have recently been tagged to a post by an X account user who uploaded a video ranking the NPF as the most corrupt Police Force in the world. It is indeed disheartening to see the acceptance and circulation of such misleading content without proper scrutiny of its source and credibility. The question arises: on what/whose authority was such a ranking made and what organization conducted it?” Adejobi said in the statement.

The video claims to have measured the ability of the police using the Special Anti-Robbery Squad

“Furthermore, disturbingly, the basis for this ranking appears to be rooted in outdated parameters, notably focusing on the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). It is important to highlight that SARS was disbanded in 2020 and using it as the sole criteria for evaluating police practices several years later is both unfair and unjust,” he said.

The statement added that while it is acknowledged that no organization is flawless, the Nigeria Police Force has been steadfast in its commitment to self-cleansing and self-policing. Instances exist where errant officers have been disciplined, demoted, dismissed, and even prosecuted for professional misconduct (we have receipts). Our dedication to transparency and accountability far exceeds that of many other organizations (go and verify).

“The dissemination of such defamatory content serves no constructive purpose and only serves to undermine and frustrate the morale of hardworking officers who risk their lives daily to maintain law and order and provide security in our beloved country.

The police spokesperson therefore urged everyone to refrain from spreading unfounded allegations and instead support police efforts aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and integrity of the Nigeria Police Force and report Police misconduct and unsatisfying encounters on any of the police complaints channels pinned on his X handle.
