Knowing the Season Makes All the Difference
Life doesn’t come with a weather app for your destiny, but Ecclesiastes 3:1 nails it: “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.”
Sometimes you’re in the storm. You’re hiding, healing, learning. That’s the time to take cover.
Other times, the sky clears and it’s your moment to step out bold. That’s the time to take over.
Most of us mess up because we mix the seasons. We try to conquer when we’re still wounded, or we stay hiding long after the rain stopped.
Here’s how to know which season you’re in and what to do.
The Season to Take Cover
This is the quiet phase. The prep phase. The “nobody sees me grinding” phase.
In School/Uni: You’re struggling with courses, maybe retaking papers, feeling like everyone’s ahead. Take cover means focus on understanding, not flexing grades yet. Study in silence, ask for help, build your foundation. Joseph was in prison (cover) before the palace.
In Hustle/Career: Jobless, underpaid, or stuck in a dead-end role. This isn’t time to fake big boy/girl vibes on IG. Take cover: learn skills (free YouTube, Courses), save small, network quietly, pray hard. Your future self is being built right now.
In Relationships/Heartbreak: Fresh out of a situationship or betrayal. Don’t rush into “showing them I’m fine.” Take cover: heal, forgive, learn red flags. Spend time with God and real friends. Solitude now = strength later.
Spiritually: Feeling dry, distant from God, attacks everywhere. Take cover under His wings (Psalm 91). Fast, pray, soak in worship. Don’t force public ministry yet.
Signs you’re in cover season: Doors closing, peace in waiting, lessons repeating.
The Season to Take Over
The storm passed. Skills sharpened. Character tested. Green lights everywhere. Now MOVE.
In School/Uni: You finally understand the game—notes clicking, grades rising, opportunities knocking. Take over: lead the group project, apply for scholarships, start that campus brand. Your season shifted.
In Hustle/Career: Clients coming, money flowing, ideas connecting. Take over: launch the business, negotiate the raise, scale the side gig. Stop playing small and occupy till He comes.
In Relationships: You’ve healed, know your worth, walking with God. Take over: date intentionally, set standards, love boldly. No more settling.
Spiritually: Fire on your prayer altar, boldness in your spirit, open doors. Take over: share your testimony, start the ministry, lead souls to Christ.
Signs you’re in takeover season: Favor flowing, peace in action, confirmation everywhere.
How to Switch Seasons Without Forcing It
Seek God first – He’s the one who changes times and seasons (Daniel 2:21).
Obey in the cover season – faithfulness there unlocks takeover.
Don’t compare timelines – David hid in caves while Saul sat on the throne. But David’s cover season prepared him to rule better.
Listen to wise voices – mentors can spot your season before you do.
Right now, some of you reading this are trying to take over while still bleeding. Pause. Heal. Grow in secret.
Others have been hiding too long God’s saying, “The rain stopped. Step out.”
There’s a time to take cover.
There’s a time to take over.
