Senegal has set a new African record at the World Cup.
This followed their defeat of Iraq by five unreplied goals, the first by any African team in the final of a World Cup match.
The win ensured the Senegalese have qualified for the knockout stages (round of 32), where they’ll play against Belgium on Wednesday, July 1.
The Teranga Lions had to wait until other group matches were concluded to known if they scaled through to the Round of 32.
The team was on the fifth position on the third place rankings, with Sweden, Ecuador, Bosnia and Paraguay ahead of them.
There were other teams below the Senegalese who stood a better chance of overtaking them on the table by the end of the group stage matches. However, after the conclusion of all group matches, the West Africans made it through as one of the third best teams.
