Senegal have sent Nigeria’s D’Tigers packing from the 2025 AfroBasket after a 91-75 blowout loss in the quarterfinals

LUANDA, Angola – Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team known as D’Tigers are out of the 2025 FIBA Men’s AfroBasket tournament.

Nigeria suffered a 75-91 loss to their counterparts from Senegal in a quarterfinal clash played at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda in Angola on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

Nigeria won all three group games against Madagascar, Tunisia, and Cameroon to advance to the quarterfinals with an unbeaten 3-0 record.

Senegal, on the other hand, had a more challenging group stage, winning two and losing one of their games.

The Lions progressed to the quarterfinals by narrowly beating South Sudan in a playoff fixture.

Senegal as five-time champions are no push overs as the game began competitively, with Nigeria taking the first quarter 24-23.

However, the Lions stormed back in the second quarter, outscoring Nigeria 30-18 to take control of the game and established an 11-point lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Senegal extended their advantage through multiple runs, taking it 23-13 as the lead ballooned to 21 points heading into the fourth quarter.

Nigeria fought back to win the final period 20-15 but Senegal held on for a 16-point victory.

Senegal won the game thanks to big performances from Brancou Badio leading the charge with 32 points, Jean-Jacques Boissy contributing 21 points, and Moustapha Diop delivering a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.

For Nigeria, top performers included Stan Okoye with 14 points and seven rebounds, Ike Nwamu with 15 points, and Caleb Agada with 12 points.

The result means Nigeria is out of the tournament while Senegal get revenge for losing to the D’Tigers in the 2015 final.

The Lions now move to the semifinals to face Mali who defeated Ivory Coast in the other clash of the day.
