NIGERIA: Fresh reports from the Nigerian football scene have confirmed that referee Yakubu Adamu has been suspended indefinitely with immediate effect by the Refereeing Development Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following his controversial officiating during the Rangers International versus Bendel Insurance league match.
The suspension reportedly came after the referee’s performance during the match created major reactions among players, coaches, supporters, and football stakeholders who questioned several decisions made during the encounter.
According to reports from the match, the controversy started after a number of disputed calls during crucial moments of the game. Many observers believed the referee failed to properly control the match and made decisions that affected the flow and fairness of the contest. The tension on the pitch increased as both teams reacted strongly to some officiating calls, leading to arguments and frustration around the stadium.
Sources within the football circle stated that the NFF Refereeing Development Committee reviewed the referee’s conduct and performance after receiving complaints and match reports from the encounter. After assessment of the incidents during the Rangers and Bendel Insurance clash, the committee decided to suspend Yakubu Adamu indefinitely from all football and league activities pending further investigations.
Although the football authorities are yet to release full official details about every incident from the game, reports suggest the suspension was mainly due to controversial decisions, poor match management, and officiating errors that raised concerns over the credibility of the encounter.
The Rangers versus Bendel Insurance fixture has now become one of the most talked-about matches in the league this week, not because of the football played, but because of the officiating drama that followed after the final whistle.
This latest development once again highlights the growing concerns surrounding refereeing standards in Nigerian football. Clubs, supporters, and analysts have repeatedly demanded better officiating, fairness, and accountability from match officials as the league season reaches its most important stage.
For many football followers, the indefinite suspension of Yakubu Adamu sends a strong message from the NFF that controversial officiating and actions capable of damaging the image of the league will not be tolerated.
