RIVERS, Nigeria — Several parts of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, have been hit by flooding following about three days of persistent rainfall across the city.
Floodwaters have been reported in areas including New G.R.A., sections of the Eliozu–G.U. Ake Road, Eneka, Elimgbu, Odili Road, SARS Road and parts of Rupokwu, among others, reports Channels TV.
The prolonged downpour has left water stagnant in several locations, while some communities have recorded significant flooding, disrupting movement and raising concerns among residents.
The situation is reportedly more severe in some residential areas, particularly around the Eneka axis, where floodwaters have entered homes and left residents seeking help.
Videos circulating on social media show distressed residents appealing for assistance as rising floodwaters overwhelm parts of their homes.
An eyewitness described the situation as alarming, particularly for residents in communities already affected by the rising water levels.
The continued rainfall has heightened fears that more communities could be affected if the downpour persists, with residents in affected areas calling for urgent intervention.
The flooding has also renewed concerns about drainage and flood-management challenges in parts of Port Harcourt, particularly as heavy rainfall continues to test the city’s capacity to drain accumulated water.
