Musiala’s Nigerian Food Confession: Bayern Star Declares Love For Fufu

Jamal Musiala may represent Germany at the international level, but his loving reference to Fufu highlights a deep respect for his Nigerian roots

Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala has endeared himself to Nigerian fans by revealing his love for one of the nation’s most classic dishes – fufu.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who represents Germany internationally, made the confession during a recent light-hearted video interview on How Hungry Are You.

When asked to rate his hunger levels, Musiala responded cheekily: “After eating fufu.” in a video posted on TikTok.

His comments were a nod to the doughy West African dish made from fermented cassava widely enjoyed across Nigeria.

While he may have pledged his allegiance to Germany at senior international level, Musiala’s loving reference to fufu highlights the deep Nigerian roots that he still embraces.

The Bayern star was born in Stuttgart to a Nigerian father, giving him dual nationality and eligibility to represent the Super Eagles.

Despite being raised in England from age seven after his family moved to the UK, it’s clear Musiala maintains a strong appreciation for Nigerian culture – particularly when it comes to the nation’s cuisine.

Food Bringing Cultures Together

In a world often divided along racial and cultural lines, Musiala’s fufu reference is a heart-warming reminder of how food can unite people from all backgrounds.

The famous delicacy is a staple not just in Nigeria, but across much of West Africa. Its ability to bring people together around the table is symbolised by Musiala’s clear affection for the dish despite his German upbringing.

For Nigerian fans, hearing one of the world’s top young talents profess his love for fufu will only increase their sense of pride in his shared heritage.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who has already made 27 appearances for Germany, was posed the cheeky question of which country he would choose if forced to pick one or the other.

Musiala on Nigeria and Germany

With his feet firmly on the ground, Musiala gave a diplomatic response, stating:

“Out of respect, I can’t answer that. “

The Bayern ace was born in Stuttgart to a Nigerian father and German mother before being raised in England from the age of seven after his family moved to the UK.

With eligibility for all three nations, Musiala had plenty of options on the international stage before pledging his allegiance to Germany – the country of his birth.

Having risen through the youth ranks with the German national set-up, he made his senior debut in March 2021 and has since established himself as a key man for the European giant.

However, Musiala clearly still holds a deep affection and respect for his Nigerian roots and English upbringing, as evidenced by his carefully-worded response.

“I have respect for both, I love both,” he added in the video posted on the social media platform Tiktok.

The classy midfielder is keen to avoid causing any controversy or offence by overtly picking one nation over the others close to his heart.

For now, he seems perfectly content representing Germany, for whom he played at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
