Morocco is accelerating its preparation strategy for the 2030 FIFA World Cup by significantly increasing its hospitality infrastructure.
Marking a historic milestone, the country will co-host the international tournament alongside Spain and Portugal.
To ensure seamless hosting capabilities, Moroccan authorities plan to add 60,000 hotel beds by 2030, according to statements from the tourism minister.
Beyond tournament logistics, government officials intend to leverage the momentum generated by the national team’s historic run to the quarterfinals.
The initiative also aims to reinforce a tourism industry that generates thousands of employment opportunities and contributes roughly 7 percent to the nation’s gross domestic product.
Morocco recorded nearly 20 million tourist arrivals over the past year, solidifying its standing as the most visited country in Africa. The government has set a target to raise that figure to 26 million visitors annually by 2030.
Over the preceding four years, local authorities have already introduced 45,000 hotel beds, expanding the country’s total hospitality capacity to slightly above 300,000 beds.
Furthermore, public funds exceeding 190 billion dirhams (approximately 17.8 billion euros) have been directed toward extensive upgrades across rail systems, road networks, airports, stadiums, and general urban infrastructure in anticipation of the global sporting event.
Looking ahead, the next phase of the expansion strategy focuses on increasing tourist arrivals from key international markets, including China, the United States, and the Middle East, through expanded air travel routes. Additionally, Morocco aims to diversify its tourism footprint beyond established hotspots like Marrakech and Agadir, positioning Rabat as a primary destination for cultural, athletic, and corporate travel.
