Monaco Agree £15.5m Fee To Sign Liverpool Midfielder Takumi Minamino This Summer

Monaco have agreed a deal to sign Liverpool midfielder Takumi Minamino for £15.5million.

Reports had suggested Atalanta were also interested in the Japan international – who has struggled for regular first-team action under Jurgen Klopp – while Sportsmail reported interest from Wolves and Fulham earlier this month.

But Sportsmail understands Ligue 1 side Monaco – who have just seen Cesc Fabregas depart – are now in the driving seat after agreeing an initial £12.9m fee plus a further £2.6m in add-ons with the Reds.

The Athletic claim the 27-year-old has also agreed personal terms with the French outfit, but that a medical is still to be completed because the player is still in Japan.

Minamino played a key role in the Reds’ FA Cup and League Cup glory last season as the club’s top goalscorer in domestic cup competitions with seven.

But he made just 11 appearances in the Premier League – scoring three goals in the process – for Jurgen Klopp’s side in 2021-22.

Minamino joined Liverpool from Red Bull Salzburg in a £7.25million deal ahead of the 2020 January transfer window.

Having seen little game time too in 2020-21, he headed out on loan to Southampton for the second half of last season and made 10 appearances before returning to Anfield.

The midfielder has scored 14 goals in 55 appearances during his Reds career, and is now set to follow Sadio Mane out of the Anfield exit.

The Senegalese star has completed the first part of his Bayern Munich medical in Germany after jetting in from Majorca on Tuesday as the forward edges closer to a move to the Bundesliga giants.

Liverpool agreed a £35.1million deal with the German club for the 30-year-old last week and he touched down at Munich Airport on Tuesday morning.

The star forward arrived in Bavaria on a private jet from Majorca with his advisor Bjorn Bezemer and then went on to Barmherzige Bruder hospital to undergo his medical.

Later on, Mane emerged from the medical facility wearing Bayern Munich training gear and posed for pictures with fans outside.

The star forward is expected to be unveiled by the Bundesliga champions on Wednesday at the Allianz Arena.
