LAGOS, Nigeria – The Media Team emerged champions of the Ambassador Segun Olusola Legacy Cup after edging the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) 4-3 on penalties following a thrilling 3-3 draw in regulation time at the Main Bowl of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The annual celebrity football match, organised by the Nigeria Broadcasters Merit Awards (NBMA) in conjunction with the Actors Guild of Nigeria and supported by IBD IMPEX Limited and Rite Foods Limited, once again brought together media professionals, actors and entertainers in a celebration of sportsmanship, friendship and the enduring legacy of the late Ambassador Segun Olusola.

The encounter lived up to expectations, delivering an entertaining spectacle filled with goals, skill and friendly rivalry.
Leading the charge for the Actors Guild of Nigeria was popular comedian Akpororo, whose clinical finishing produced a remarkable hat-trick. His three goals appeared to have put the entertainers on course for victory, but the Media Team fought back through goals from Akinwale Kasali, Taiwo Odedeyi and Joshua Ikogor to level the contest at 3-3.
With neither side able to find a winner in regulation time, the match was decided via a penalty shootout, where the Media Team held their nerve to secure a 4-3 victory and lift the prestigious Ambassador Segun Olusola Legacy Cup.
The match also featured veteran comedian Ali Baba and several notable figures from Nigeria’s entertainment industry, who thrilled spectators with energetic performances that added glamour and excitement to the occasion.
Following the final whistle, the trophy and other prizes, donated by the Family of Ambassador Segun Olusola, were presented by the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria alongside the Chairman of the AGN Lagos State Chapter.
The football fiesta continued with another entertaining fixture between the Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies, Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), and Emiloju FC.
Emiloju FC produced a dominant display to record an emphatic 5-0 victory. Adetunji Waris Ayomide opened the scoring, while Faruk Abubakar and Rofeek Safiu each grabbed a brace to complete an impressive attacking performance.

Beyond the results, the annual celebrity football event once again achieved its objective of fostering friendship, healthy competition, networking and stronger ties between Nigeria’s broadcasting and entertainment industries.
The tournament also served as a fitting tribute to Ambassador Segun Olusola, whose remarkable contributions to broadcasting, sports, culture and national development continue to inspire generations of Nigerians.
