CAPE TOWN, South Africa – Two women and three men have been arrested in Cape Town, South Africa, over the alleged kidnapping and rape of a 25-year-old e-hailing driver.
The two women, aged 23 and 34, allegedly raped the driver after he was lured to a meeting with one of them, whom he had met through his e-hailing business, reports Nigerian Tribune.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) disclosed the arrest in a statement posted on its X handle on Sunday.
According to the police, the victim met one of the women the previous week while carrying out his e-hailing duties.
The two exchanged telephone numbers and remained in contact before arranging to meet.
Police said the woman and her accomplices allegedly kidnapped the driver when he arrived at the agreed meeting point.
“Steenberg police rescued a 25-year-old e-hailing driver after he was raped and held at ransom by two female suspects and three males yesterday,” SAPS said.
The suspects allegedly contacted the victim’s brother and demanded R4,000 for his release.
The victim was subsequently traced through a tracker installed in his vehicle and found at Southampton Road in Heathfield, according to the police.
The other suspects are three males aged 16, 42 and 48.
SAPS said all five suspects had been arrested and were expected to appear before the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, September 14.
