John Terry has always been associated with Chelsea Football Club, but the former England international may now have another vested interest in the footballing world.
The Blues legend made an incredible 717 appearances for the Stamford Bridge outfit during a 19-year association with the west Londoners.
He won the Premier League title five times, the FA Cup five times, the League Cup three times and the UEFA Champions League and Europa League once each too.
Terry will forever be part of Chelsea history, but the 45-year-old is now set to write his name into the history books of another club – Colchester United.
John Terry Has Family Connection With Colchester
That is because the former defender is set to complete a £14million deal to buy the League Two club, alongside a consortium of other investors.
Colchester sit 13th in League Two, nine points adrift of the play-off places and take on Accrington Stanley at the JobServe Community Stadium on Tuesday night. Terry’s nephew Frankie actually plays for the Essex outfit and could therefore see his uncles become one of his employers.
According to the Sun, the £14million deal is poised to be completed imminently, with a source saying to the Sun: ““He’s a hugely passionate advocate of lower league football, and helping clubs get the support and publicity they deserve.
“He’s already been down to the training ground a few times and got stuck in without any fanfare.
“He really believes in the boys and, for their part, the lads at Colchester are absolutely buzzing that he’s getting involved.”
Big-Name Stars Have Got Involved With EFL Teams
Terry would be the latest in a long line of big-name stars to invest in lower league football in the UK. Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have made waves since taking over Wrexham in 2020, leading the Welsh outfit to the Championship from the National League in a short space of time.
Former NFL star Tom Brady has been a minority owner of Birmingham City since 2023, with another Hollywood star Michael B Jordan became a minority co-owner in Bournemouth in 2022. Rapper Snoop Dogg also became a minority co-owner in Swansea City just last year.
Terry hung up his boots in 2018, having spent the final year of his career with Aston Villa, where he would go on to spend three years as a coach, having been brought back on board by Dean Smith.
He has also been in charge of the Chelsea academy, since his playing days ended.
