DELTA, Nigeria – The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has ordered the mass transfer of over 1,300 officers from the Delta State Police Command following a recent alleged extrajudicial killing that has triggered widespread public outrage.
The directive comes in the aftermath of the killing of a 28-year-old man in Effurun, Delta State, an incident that was captured on video and widely circulated on social media, sparking national condemnation.
Reports indicate that the victim was restrained before being shot at close range by a police officer, an act widely described as a violation of operational procedures and human rights standards.
As part of broader internal measures, the IGP also directed that officers connected to the Delta Command be redeployed, a move seen as part of efforts to restore public trust and enforce accountability within the force.
