NIGERIA: Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has said Nigerians will ultimately determine the value of President Bola Tinubu’s policies based on their lived experiences.
Atiku was reacting to former Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari, who said he had never seen a Nigerian president with a better plan than Tinubu in the last 40 years, reports LEADERSHIP.
In a response through his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku said Masari was entitled to commend the President, but argued that the critical issue was whether Tinubu’s plans were translating into improved living conditions for Nigerians.
According to Ibe, Nigerians would judge the administration’s plans by the realities they face daily.
“Are the plans about petrol at record-high prices, soaring food and energy costs, worsening insecurity and the collapse of household purchasing power?
“If these are the best plans Masari has seen in nearly 40 years, then Nigerians are entitled to ask when the benefits will begin to show in their lives.
“The issue is not whether Tinubu has plans. The real question is whether those plans are making Nigerians safer and better off,” he said.
Atiku also criticised Tinubu’s continued stay in Paris, contrasting it with French President Emmanuel Macron’s attendance at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
He said the development was particularly concerning “at a time of such hardship” in Nigeria.
