IMO, Nigeria — The 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abducted alongside one other person along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Imo State have regained their freedom.

The victims, who were kidnapped while travelling to the NYSC orientation camp, are currently receiving medical attention at the Department of State Services (DSS) Hospital in Owerri, reports Channels TV.

The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, is at the DSS clinic where he is currently addressing the rescued victims.

Nafiu arrived at the facility alongside the Imo State Commissioner of Police, the Director of the DSS in the state and the Brigade Commander, 34 Artillery Brigade, Imo State.

The development comes after the abduction of the prospective corps members sparked concerns over the safety of corps members travelling to their orientation camps.

Further details on how the victims were rescued and the condition of those receiving treatment were not immediately available as of the time of filing this report.
