ABUJA, Nigeria — Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has described the political support expressed for President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council as an unprecedented level of consensus around a sitting Nigerian president.
Soludo made the observation at the inauguration in Abuja on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, pointing to the participation of governors and political stakeholders from different party backgrounds as evidence of a broad political alignment ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In an account of his remarks issued by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA), the Anambra governor highlighted cross-party cooperation, economic reforms and the relationship between political leadership and national development.
Soludo, who was elected governor on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said his party’s support for Tinubu was rooted in shared interests in national unity, security and economic prosperity.
He drew attention to the participation of approximately 31 state governors at the gathering, describing it as an indication of the breadth of political support surrounding the president.
However, the observation about the governors’ participation should not be interpreted as a formal endorsement of Tinubu by every governor or as evidence of a nationwide consensus among voters.
Soludo backs Tinubu’s economic reforms
The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria also defended the economic philosophy underpinning the Tinubu administration’s policies, describing its approach as pragmatic progressivism.
Soludo argued that the administration had confronted structural economic challenges rather than defer difficult policy decisions, adding that its reforms should be assessed against the economic conditions the country faced before and after Tinubu assumed office.
Drawing on his background as an economist, he credited the president’s understanding of public finance with influencing the direction of the reforms.
According to the account of his remarks, Soludo maintained that the administration’s decisions were aimed at addressing long-standing economic problems and laying the groundwork for sustainable growth and prosperity.
However, while supporters of the government have cited its macroeconomic adjustments and reform initiatives as evidence of progress, critics have questioned how quickly the benefits are reaching ordinary Nigerians amid continuing economic pressures.
APGA governor’s position attracts attention
Soludo’s participation in the APC campaign council’s inauguration has drawn attention because he remains a member of APGA, illustrating the possibility of political cooperation across party lines ahead of the 2027 elections.
The FORCEPA Media and Publicity Team said his remarks placed economic policy and institutional performance at the centre of discussions surrounding Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The forum also emphasised the role of federal public institutions in implementing government policies, documenting development programmes and providing Nigerians with accurate information on public-sector performance.
The inauguration comes as political parties and their allies intensify preparations for the 2027 general election.
