Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has criticised UEFA for failing to provide details about the death of Suleiman al-Obeid, popularly known as the ‘Palestinian Pele’.
UEFA posted a tribute on their social media account, praising Obeid as a talent who inspired many children during difficult times. However, the post did not mention how or where he died.
The Palestinian Football Association (PFA) later revealed that the 41-year-old footballer died after Israeli forces struck the southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday.
Salah reacted sharply to UEFA’s tribute, asking on social media, “Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?”
Obeid was a married man and father of five children. His death has drawn attention to the ongoing conflict in Gaza and its impact on civilians.
