Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team known as D’Tigress are through to the final of the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket.
Nigeria’s D’Tigress led by Rena Wakama recorded a 75-68 victory against Senegal in the final played at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday, August 2, 2025.
The win not only propelled the six-time African champions into yet another final but also extended their unbeaten streak to a decade.
The journey to the semifinals showcased Nigeria’s dominance throughout the tournament.
They began with a commanding 92-45 victory against Rwanda to start their group phase.
They followed this with a 60-55 defeat of Mozambique to wrap up their group stage undefeated.
In the quarterfinals, Nigeria delivered an 83-47 thrashing of Cameroon.
Against Senegal, the D’Tigress started strong, taking the first quarter 22-17.
They maintained momentum in the second quarter, winning 21-20 to secure a six-point lead at the halftime break.
However, Senegal mounted a comeback in the third quarter, outscoring Nigeria 21-9 to take a six-point lead.
Nigeria battled fiercely in the fourth quarter, clinching it 23-10 to secure a seven-point victory and advance to the final.
This victory marks Nigeria’s fifth consecutive AfroBasket final appearance, a testament to their dominance.
Top performers for Nigeria included Ezinne Kalu, who led with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Promise Amukamara contributed 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Amy Okonkwo added 15 points and 5 rebounds.
Victoria Macaulay rounded out the standout performances with 13 points and 3 rebounds.
