New Super Eagles’ Invitee Felix Agu Will Not Play At Unity Cup

Newly invited Super Eagles, defender Felix Agu, will not feature in the upcoming Unity Cup tournament in London.

He was named in the 26-man squad released by head coach Eric Chelle on Wednesday.

Agu, who plays for Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, was poised to make his international debut for Nigeria.

However, German outlet Die DeichStube reports that bureaucratic delays related to his eligibility paperwork have prevented his full integration into the national setup.

The 25-year-old fullback enjoyed an impressive 2024/2025 campaign in the Bundesliga, scoring 3 goals in 22 appearances.

According to Squawka, Agu was the most prolific penalty winner in the league this season.

He earned three penalties—more than any other player in the German top flight.

While Agu will not be eligible to compete during the Unity Cup, he has been offered the chance to train with the Super Eagles throughout the tournament.

His call-up comes amid the absence of several regular national team players, who remain committed to their respective clubs.

Although his international debut has been delayed, Agu’s presence in camp offers him a valuable opportunity to integrate into the team’s system ahead of potential future call-ups.

He will not be part of the matchday squad for the Super Eagles’ friendly against Russia, scheduled for June 6 at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
