National Council On Hydrocarbon Urges FG To Drill Frontier Basin In Niger

The Permanent Secretary in charge of Mineral Resources in Niger State, Alhaji Sadiq Abubakar Idris, has said that the immediate benefits to be derived from the memo submitted to the Federal Ministry of Petroleum seeking the establishment of the frontier basin is most paramount.

He stated this during an interview at the 7th meeting of the national council on hydrocarbons with the theme “Roadmap and Strategic Policy Option Towards Achieving Energy Transition in Nigeria” held at Justice Idris Legbo kutigi International Conference Centre, Minna.

He urge the National Council on Hydrocarbon to encourage President Muhamadu Buhari to also commission the drilling of the frontier basin in Niger State as it was recently done in Bauchi and Gombe respectively.

The Permanent Secretary maintained that another Memo talked about during the council is the pipeline that seeks to transport gas from Ajaokuta to Abuja, Niger, Kaduna and Kano.

According to him, it is easier to transport gas through the pipeline than any mode of transportation, even as he appealed that since it passes through Niger State, there should be a platform where the state industries and other power generations will benefit from expansion work.

He pointed out on the issue of security that communities around should be carried along that by so doing the communities will ensure that the issue of vandalisation will be taken care of as in the case of Niger Delta.

Speaking earlier, the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Petroleum, Mr Gabriel Tanimu Aduda, said that gathering experts and policymakers in the energy sector was designed to renew energy-related issues, identify opportunities and problems to proffer solutions in line with global best practices.

Aduda noted that Nigeria is committed to achieving carbon neutrality end energy poverty by lifting 100 million people out of poverty and deriving economic growth.

According to him, the country through the solid minerals development fund in the verge of unveiling its cuttings edge technology in gold mining to eliminate harmful reagents, and use of cyanide for human and environmental practices.

Also speaking, the Niger State Government represented by the SSG, Alhaji Ahmed Matane, reiterated that the state has a commercial deposit of hydrocarbons in Bida Basin, sequel to the progressive reports and findings of the consultants from IBBU Lapai and FUT Minna.

He called for political will and appealed to the relevant agencies to expedite actions on the exploration of the Bida Basin for optimal benefits.
