Jose Mourinho Blasts Galatasaray’s Lack Of ‘Humanity’ As Turkish Champions Let Goalkeeper Take Penalty To Rub Salt In Fenerbahce’s Wounds After Title Failure

Jose Mouringo has blasted Galatasaray’s lack of “human condition” after seeing the Turkish champions allow their goalkeeper to take a penalty.

.. Gala claimed Super Lig crown

…Muslera scored on final day

.. Portuguese less than impressed

WHAT HAPPENED?

Gala were on course to wrap up the Super Lig title before the final round of fixtures, allowing them to indulge in a little fun during a meeting with Kayserispor. They led 2-0 heading into the closing stages of that contest.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

When they were awarded a spot-kick in the 89th minute, long-serving keeper Fernando Muslera was invited to step up. He just about squeezed his penalty into the back of the net – allowing the 38-year-old to register the second goal of his 14-year Gala career.

DID YOU KNOW?

While the sight of Muslera converting from 12 yards brought a smile to the face of many, Fenerbahce boss Mourinho was less than impressed with what he considers to be a lack of respect from his side’s arch rivals in Istanbul.

WHAT JOSE MOURINHO SAID

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss told reporters after seeing his side end their 2024-25 campaign in second place: “The way you celebrate championships shows your human condition. Today’s championship celebrations were like a summary of the stories during the season. When it was 2-0, they made the goalkeeper kick a penalty, which was a great image to show how humane they are.”

TELL ME MORE

Mourinho has butted heads with Galatasaray on a regular basis during his time in Turkey. He has vowed to be back for more in 2025-26, saying: “I can do better, my players can do better. I don’t know if that will be enough to have a good season. I’m not talking about players coming, the squad. These are internal matters. This is our job – organising the pre-season camp, where we’ll be, who we’ll play. We’ll play our last friendly match at home five days before our Champions League qualifiers.”

WHAT NEXT?

Mourinho has one year left to run on his contract at Fenerbahce, taking him through to the summer of 2026, and appears set to honour that agreement despite being linked with various coaching posts throughout the world.
