John Utaka Named Head Coach Of French Women’s Club Montpellier

.. John Utaka has been appointed the head coach of ASPTT Montpellier Football Féminin, a club in the French women’s football sixth division

John Utaka, former Super Eagles attacker, has announced his appointment as head coach of ASPTT Montpellier Football Féminin, a club in the French women’s football sixth division.

The former Nigerian international shared the appointment in a post on Instagram on Thursday.

However, ASPTT Montpellier Football Féminin is not affiliated with Montpellier Hérault Sport Club Féminines, the female arm of the French Ligue 1 club that Utaka once played for.

ASPTT Montpellier is listed as a club in the Regional 1 Occitania Football League, one of the 13 regional leagues that formed the sixth division of the French women’s football ladder.

Montpellier Hérault Sport Club Féminines plays in the French Division 1 Féminine League and finished sixth last season.

Utaka played for the Super Eagles for over a decade before he retired from football in 2018. He played for Portsmouth, Rennes and Lens.

He also featured for the Montpellier HSC men’s team and was part of the legendary squad that won the club’s first-ever French Ligue 1 title in 2012.

Utaka became a coach in the Montpellier HSC youth system after retirement and secured his UEFA A Licence in 2022.
