Amid intensifying conflict with Israel, Iran’s Supreme Leader declared “the battle begins,” vowing no mercy and warning of a surprise the world would remember for centuries
Tensions between Iran and Israel have reached dangerous new levels, as Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared that ‘the battle begins’ and issued fierce warnings, while the U.S. considers military action.
On Tuesday night, Khamenei posted a dramatic message on social media. It featured an image of fireballs raining down on an ancient city, along with the words, “In the name of the noble Haidar, the battle begins.” Haidar is a title for Imam Ali, an important figure in Shia Islam.
In another message posted in English, Khamenei said, “We must give a strong response to the terrorist Zionist regime. We will show the Zionists no mercy.” At the same time, Iranian state TV hinted at a major upcoming event, saying, “Tonight, a great surprise will occur – one that the world will remember for centuries.”
These developments have reportedly led U.S. President Donald Trump to consider ordering airstrikes against Iran. Following urgent security meetings, he is said to be weighing possible attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, including the Fordow site.
Trump had also spoken out directly against Khamenei, writing on social media: “We know exactly where the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there – we are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now.” He added, “But we don’t want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin.”
Meanwhile, drone and missile strikes between Israel and Iran have continued for the fifth day in a row. Both countries launched fresh attacks overnight. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed to have sent a “more powerful” wave of missiles toward Israel.
Despite the escalation, Iran’s top military official, Gen. Abdul Rahim Mousavi, insisted that the strikes so far were only meant as warnings. He stated, “All of the attacks carried out so far have been solely for the purpose of warning and deterrence. The punishment operation will be carried out soon.”
In Israel, the military said it had killed a high-ranking Iranian officer and targeted multiple Iranian military sites. Civilians in Tel Aviv were seen running to shelters as air defense systems intercepted incoming missiles.
There are growing concerns over Iran’s nuclear facilities. The International Atomic Energy Agency has reported what it called a “direct impact” on the Natanz nuclear plant, one of Iran’s key nuclear sites. While Iran maintains that its nuclear program is peaceful, the IAEA has warned that the country has enough enriched uranium to make several nuclear weapons if it chooses.
