D’Tigers Secure Fifth Place As Senegal Clinch Bronze At AfroBasket

Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, wrapped up their 2025 FIBA AfroBasket campaign with a fifth-place finish, while Senegal claimed the bronze medal after defeating Cameroon in the third-place playoff, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Nigerians, who missed out on a semifinal berth, bounced back to secure a top-five spot, offering a measure of encouragement as the team continues its rebuilding process under a new technical crew.

Meanwhile, Senegal cemented their status as one of the continent’s consistent performers, outclassing Cameroon 98-72 in Luanda. The victory marked Senegal’s third consecutive third-place finish at the AfroBasket. The star of the contest was Jean-Jacques Boissy, who etched his name into the tournament’s record books with a stunning 40-point performance — the highest individual scoring tally in AfroBasket history.

For Cameroon, who had narrowly lost 74-73 to hosts Angola in the semifinals, the defeat was a tough conclusion to a spirited campaign that nonetheless showcased their potential as an emerging force.

D’Tigers’ fifth-place finish, while short of podium contention, ensures Nigeria remain within the upper tier of African basketball. The result also provides a foundation on which the team can build ahead of upcoming World Cup and Olympic qualifiers.
