Nigeria’s Super Eagles continued their preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with an encouraging 2-2 draw against Poland in an international friendly match played in Warsaw.
Eric Chelle’s men once again showed determination and fighting spirit as they came from a difficult contest to secure a valuable result away from home. The Super Eagles started brightly and were rewarded in the 23rd minute when the in-form Terem Moffi found the back of the net to give Nigeria a deserved lead.
The home side responded strongly and managed to level the score deep into first-half stoppage time, with Poland scoring in the 45+1 minute to send both teams into the break tied at 1-1.
Nigeria remained confident after the restart and continued to push forward in search of another goal. Their efforts paid off in the 73rd minute when Paul Onuachu calmly converted a penalty to restore the Super Eagles’ advantage.
Just when it looked like Nigeria would leave Warsaw with a victory, Poland struck again in the 90th minute to make it 2-2 and deny the visitors a win.
The match was another competitive chapter in the growing history between both nations. In their three meetings, Nigeria have recorded one win and two draws, while Poland are still searching for their first victory against the Super Eagles. The last meeting between the two countries came before the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, when Victor Moses scored from the penalty spot to give Nigeria a memorable 1-0 victory.
Although the win slipped away late on, the result extends the Super Eagles’ positive run under Eric Chelle. The team continues to show signs of progress, confidence and attacking quality as they build towards AFCON 2027.
With a final friendly match against Portugal on the horizon, Chelle and his players will be eager to continue their impressive form and fine-tune their preparations. If their recent performances are anything to go by, Nigerian fans have every reason to be optimistic about what lies ahead.
The road to AFCON 2027 is still long, but the Super Eagles are steadily spreading their wings, and brighter days may be waiting just around the corner.
