Our Two Biggest Characters — Fulham Star Hails Nigerian Duo Iwobi, Bassey

Fulham’s Nigerian duo, Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi, have received special praise after returning from AFCON duty with the Super Eagles.

Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi have earned high praise from teammate Josh King, who identified the Nigerian stars as crucial to performances on the pitch and influential figures in the dressing room.

King was particularly glowing in his praise for Bassey, highlighting the strong connection he shares with the Super Eagles centre-back. The young midfielder, who turned 19 in January, explained how Bassey’s forward-thinking play from defence is vital to his own role in building attacks for The Cottagers.

King noted that he often benefits from the defender’s distribution when operating in midfield, a quality he deeply appreciates.

“He’s someone I look up to, and I like the way he carries himself on the pitch,” King stated on the club’s YouTube channel.

“I play in the pocket of midfield, and he tries to find me all the time with key passes.”

While also acknowledging the importance of fellow Nigerian Alex Iwobi, King singled out Bassey for his impactful presence both on and off the field.

“We definitely combine well on and off the pitch,” he added. “Bassey and Iwobi are probably our team’s main characters. I may say Bassey picks a little more force, but they are both key to the team.”

Fulham have been in impressive form over the past month, losing just two of their last 9 games, and have climbed to within 6 points of the European spots.

The Cottagers also have another Nigerian on their books, Samuel Chukwueze, who has recently broken into Marco Silva’s starting lineup.

All three Super Eagles stars have been in great form at Craven Cottage, with Bassey in particular, boosting his profile as one of the league’s finest defenders.
