OGUN, Nigeria – Ogun State government through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with Renew Power Limited to build a 500MW renewable energy Power plant in the state as a way of addressing electricity challenges in the state.
The MoU was signed at the Nigerian renewable energy innovating forum (NREIF) Abuja by the state governor, His Excellency, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun for the state while Mr
Vimal Chaudhry and Mr Kamal Solanki signed as directors for the company.
Among those who witnessed the signing were the Vice President, His Excellency, Kashim Shettima, Minister of Power and Energy, Adebayo Adelabu, and Bayelsa State governor, His Excellency, Duoye Diri, Alahji Abba Aliyu, MD/ CEO of Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria.
M/s. Vision Gas and Power limited will also be involved in the project at various stages of the project.
The project aims to develop a 500MW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing plant in Ogun in order to make energy accessible to the people as well as strengthen the state’s industrial capacity thereby making Ogun State a key hub in Nigeria’s renewable energy ecosystem.
According to the governor, His Excellency, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, the investment by the Nigerian companies will drive economic diversification, create jobs, and ensure that the state remains a model of innovation and sustainability.
“By expanding local capacity for clean energy production, we are reducing dependence on imports and laying a foundation for inclusive rural community and industrial growth.
We appreciate the Rural Electrification Agency and Renew Power Limited for this partnership and for sharing in our determination to provide reliable, affordable, and clean energy for our people,” the governor said.
Speaking on behalf of the company, Mr Vimal Chaudhry commended the Governor His Excellency, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun for creating an enabling environment for investment adding that the project when completed will cement Ogun State’s reputation as the industrial hub of Nigeria.
Mr Kamal Solanki , with 10 years of solar panel manufacturing experience , expressed his gratitude toward his excellency , Mr Dapo Abiodun , and Alhaji Abba Aliyu, MD/ CEO of Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria. He added that “renew power mission is to make sure that all communities in ogun state will get 24/7 power within next 36 months”.
