Former President Muhammadu Buhari Dies In London Clinic

NIGERIA: Former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, has passed away, from suspected cancer of the blood, leukaemia, it has been gathered.

His death was confirmed on Sunday afternoon by his longtime spokesperson, Garba Shehu, in a brief statement.

The statement reads:

“INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAIHIRRAJIUUN.

The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London.

May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin.”

The late president, who served two terms in office between 2015 and 2023, was 81 years old.

Details surrounding the cause of death remain undisclosed as at the time of filing this report.

Buhari, a retired Major General and former Head of State from 1983 to 1985, made a political comeback three decades later, becoming Nigeria’s democratically elected president under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tributes are already pouring in from across the country and around the world as Nigeria mourns one of its most prominent political figures of the 21st century.
